History of JMA


John Michael Associates, Inc. (“JMA”) is officially incorporated as a business on January 31, 1980.

1980, The company is founded by John T. Papa and Michael Carnemolla, thus the name “John Michael”.

By April of 1980, John T. Papa becomes the sole owner.

In 1983, JMA moves from an office building in Rocky Hill & purchases a three family house in East Hartford to operate the business.

John J. Papa is elected to the Board of Directors in 1987.


Sara K. Papa is elected to the Board of Directors in 1993.

John T. Papa retires in 1993.

1993, John J. Papa is appointed President.

JMA expands its footprint into the “Corporate Program Business” market with a primary strategic initiative to assist Fortune 500 companies with corporate branding solutions and online stores.

In 1993, JMA continues to grow and purchases a 6,000 square ft. building in West Hartford including a small warehouse.


JMA purchases Headquarters - In 1998, JMA moves all operations to 94 Holmes Road, Newington, CT. HQ is a 30,000 square ft. facility including Administrative offices, world-class fulfillment center for corporate programs & online store(s), inventory, uniform programs and more. HQ has expansion blueprints to add additional space if needed.

April 25, 2000, Small Business Enterprise – Certified in Connecticut.

November 14th, 2000, JMA is founding member of Legacy Buying Group (LBG).

On October 29, 2010, Sara K. Papa becomes the majority shareholder at JMA and is appointed CEO.

On October 12, 2012, JMA is a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) that is Certified by the Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).


2013 – Ranked #8 Privately held Diversity Co. in Connecticut.

2013 – Ranked #301 Women Owned National Recognition.

2013 - DiversityInc Top 50.

2000-2013 ASI Million Dollar Roundtable.
